What is Facebook Up to Now?

Written by Chris Latterell | Jun 26, 2012

We’re seeing Facebook make an attempt to get its users to spend more time on the site. Forbes magazine article “Facebook’s Lame Attempt To Force Its Email Service On You” reports: “On your profile page, Facebook has taken the liberty of making your Facebook email your default contact address.”

As Forbes reports, “Whether you opted for one or not, you do have a Facebook email address.”

The Lifehacker website provides instructions on some easy changes in Facebook settings as a way out of this mess.

Would it be asking too much for Facebook to be upfront about changes like this and simply post them for users either as a notification or better yet, as an opt-in, or opt-out selection?

This just serves as another reminder that transparency is the first thing sacrificed inside walled gardens. Choice and an open policy on how email users can share and control their data is so very vital in the web-age and we welcome you to come learn how with Open-Xchange.
