Setting the Standard

Dec 19, 2014

By Carsten Dirks, COO, Open-Xchange

Standards are perhaps one of the least thought about, but in some ways, most important aspects of modern life. It’s hard to imagine a life without widespread compatibility of power sockets, light bulbs and mobile phone signals. Even something as simple as the right size for a sheet of paper to fit your printer – we have the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) to thank for not having to worry about that.

It’s easy to conceptualize how important these physical objects being standardized impacts on your daily life, but as we move in to a software and cloud age it becomes more intangible. Standards are vitally important for open systems – without set standards, software users have no protection against being locked in.

Therefore, as an open company, Open-Xchange is highly motivated to achieve quality standards and receive certification from recognized standards bodies. Certification has a number of benefits for our customers, but most of all it provides reassurance that we have met exacting, industry recognized levels of performance.

Open-Xchange is proud to announce that we have been awarded the ISO 27001:2013 certification for information security management systems (ISMS) by TÜV Rheinland, one of the most rigorous standards bodies in the world. Being in the messaging business, information security is a top priority for us. 2014 saw the launch of OX Guard, the industry leading email encryption product, and this certification shows our drive to protect our users’ privacy.

But this certification hasn’t come through overnight. It is the result of years’ of hard work throughout the company and with our partners to ensure we consistently hit the mark to go above and beyond what is required of us.

I want to congratulate all members of the Open-Xchange team for their continued efforts in helping us to continue to be the most secure company with the most secure product offering possible.
