2015 is rapidly becoming a defining year for OX. As you may have seen, last week we joined forces with Finnish company Dovecot Oy in a merger that makes us a global leader in open source software – from email backend to application frontend. It’s a game-changer in fulfilling our vision to promote secure, robust messaging and rebuilding trust in the Internet.
But it doesn’t stop there. On stage live at World Hosting Day in Rust today I had the privilege of announcing that we’ve done it again – we’re merging with another pioneer in the open source and domain communities, Netherlands-based software company PowerDNS.
For the past 15 years, PowerDNS has played an integral role as a major part of the ‘phonebook of the Internet’, setting the standard for how DNS Servers should be. Unknowingly, every internet user on the planet talks to its software every day, and its core products speak an API which our customers can use to build customer-facing “self-management” websites for domain control, to integrate deeply into providers’ environments. Success is clear – a 90% market share for secure DNS.
As well as adding to the product suite, this merger gives us the opportunity to drive even more innovation into the industry for our customers. If you want to get email encryption right, for example, you need a key directory that scales like crazy, is secure and well established. You get the idea?
With Dovecot too, this trio of open source powerhouses gives our customers a complete solution – we can now cover the whole portfolio of communications, office functionality, email and DNS. It’s an offering that revolutionises the market. And drastically simplifies processes for our customers.
