Introducing DAVx⁵ Select: A seamless new Android sync experience for OX App Suite

With OX App Suite, our goal is to ensure your data is always where you need it. Following our announcement last year, regarding the sunsetting of the original OX Sync App at the end of 2025, we have been working hard to find a way to give users a successor that isn't just a replacement, but that is a major upgrade

Bridging the Android gap
While mobile connectivity is essential, Android does not natively support CardDAV and CalDAV—the industry-standard protocols OX App Suite uses to keep your life in sync. To bridge this gap, users previously had to rely on third-party manual setups or paid applications after OX Sync's EOL. We knew our users deserved something better – a solution that is native, effortless, and free.

A powerful partnership: OX App Suite + bitfire’s DAVx⁵
We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with bitfire web engineering GmbH, the experts behind the world-renowned synchronization app, DAVx⁵. By combining our expertise, bitfire has created a dedicated solution tailored specifically for our ecosystem: DAVx⁵ Select.

What is DAVx⁵ Select?
DAVx⁵ Select serves as the successor to the OX Sync App, developed and distributed by our partner bitfire. It acts as a high-performance bridge, ensuring your contacts and calendars move seamlessly between your Android device and OX App Suite:

• Native integration: Once synced, your data appears directly in your favorite Android apps—no need to learn a new interface.
• Set and forget: Enjoy reliable, background synchronization that keeps your schedule up to date.
• Optimized performance: Specifically tuned for the OX App Suite environment to ensure stability and battery efficiency.

A simplified setup experience
We believe technology should work for you, not the other way around. Starting with OX App Suite v8.48, "DAVx⁵ Select" will be fully integrated into our "Connect your device" Wizard, offering a streamlined, step-by-step onboarding process.

This deep integration introduces several key features to make setup effortless:

• App-specific passwords: For systems with this feature enabled, the wizard leverages app-specific passwords to allow a smooth setup, without the need to manually enter your primary account credentials.
• Custom branding: The experience is designed to feel familiar, with support for customer logos, specific product names, and descriptions to guide users clearly.

No additional costs
We are committed to providing a cost-effective solution for our community. Because DAVx⁵ Select leverages our existing server-side infrastructure and bitfire's ongoing maintenance of its separate premium paid synchronization app, it is available to OX App Suite users at no additional cost, removing the barriers often found with premium sync tools.

The future: Real-time sync with DAV push
We are just getting started. To close the gap between DAV and protocols like EAS, OX and bitfire are planning the implementation of DAV push in OX App Suite and DAVx5 Select for a future update. This will allow calendar and contact updates to be actively pushed to your device instantly, ensuring your data is always current the moment a change is made.

By partnering with bitfire, we ensure that DAVx⁵ Select and OX App Suite remain at the cutting edge of Android compatibility. The app will be distributed and maintained by bitfire via the Google Play Store, ensuring you always have the latest security updates, features, and performance improvements.
